Freight and Servicing

The construction of major transport projects will have an impact on freight and servicing activities in the CBD. We are working to help couriers, truck drivers, tradespeople and their customers plan ahead and keep Sydney moving. Use our interactive maps to find the best loading zone or parking space for you.

LOADING ZONES

The traffic changes in the CBD include changes to loading zones. Some existing loading zones have been removed while others have been moved or retimed. Transport for NSW is working closely with businesses and commercial drivers to manage these changes. We are currently trialling options such as retiming deliveries to outside peak periods, consolidating deliveries to reduce the number of vehicles entering the CBD and investigating off-street loading and parking options.

WHERE POSSIBLE, USE AN OFF-STREET DOCK

Please work with your customers to use their docks to drop-off and pick-up. This may mean booking a space with the dock manager or changing your delivery times.  By using docks you will save valuable time circling the block waiting for loading zone space. You will also play an important role in reducing CBD traffic congestion.

ACCESS TO GEORGE STREET

George Street is being progressively closed to general traffic for light rail construction. Only drivers delivering to loading docks, or making service calls, residents, car space owners and emergency vehicles will be given access. If you are not accessing those driveways you will not be permitted to enter closed sections of the street. Please follow the signs and directions from traffic controllers.

TRAVEL TIPS - MAKING DELIVERIES IN THE CBD

  • Work with customers to establish alternative delivery times outside the peak.
  • Establish central bulk delivery locations from which deliveries can be completed on foot or by bike (a practice already being employed by a number of companies).
  • Consult with customers to streamline the need for deliveries to multiple CBD locations.
  • Review your CBD delivery strategy: consider rezoning delivery routes to avoid key congestion areas.
  • Include extra travel time in your daily schedule.

TRAVEL TIPS - TRADES AND SERVICES WORKERS IN THE CBD

  • Identify parking locations that allow adequate time for you to complete your task.
  • Organise parking in advance with customers.
  • Ask that tasks and building access be scheduled away from peak periods when there is less pressure on journey times and parking.
  • Work with customers to establish secure drop-off points for tools and materials, allowing time to locate off-street parking.
  • Include extra travel time in your daily schedule.
